INSTRUCTIONS

These directions are written to help you to properly use your BrewBaby Ky-Tai.  Obviously, each caregiver should use common sense when practicing and using their mei tai baby carrier.  BrewBaby is not responsible for any accidents resulting from misuse of a Ky-Tai.

If you have any questions about these directions, please contact us at molly@brewbabyonline.com.  We will be happy to troubleshoot with you through email or over the phone.  Another awesome resource for help is  www.thebabywearer.com.

Good luck and remember that practice makes perfect.  It may take you and your child a few tries to get it just right but you will!

Instructions for Front Carry

1. Begin by finding the straight bottom strap of your baby carrier.

2. Tie the bottom strap around your waist like an apron.  Use a square knot (right over left, left over right).  Be sure that the side of the carrier that you want to face out is facing your lap as you tie it on.

3.  Pick up your child and hold them to you so that they are straddling your waist just above where the strap hits.

4.  Bring the body of the carrier up over your child's back and pull it up as high as it goes so that your child has a nice seat in the carrier.

5.  Bring the right strap over your shoulder, across your back and then around to the front.  Make sure that it is nice and tight.  Do the same with the left strap.

6.  Make sure that the straps make an X on your back and that they are nicely spread out.

7.  Once you have the straps crossed, grab one in each hand and hop a bit as you tighten each strap.  This will help make the carrier nice and tight and much more comfortable.

8.  Tie the straps on a bigger baby just below his bottom in a square knot.

9.  With a newborn, tie the straps behind the baby's back to give a bit more security and support.

Instructions for Back Carry

Please note:
There are several ways to get your child on your back.  This is our preferred method.  Be sure to have someone spotting you the first few times that you practice.  You may also choose to do this over/near a soft surface like a bed or couch.

  1. Tie the bottom straight strap of the carrier around your waist like an apron using a sqaure knot.  Make sure that the carrier is centered on your back.  Also be sure the side of the carrier that you want to face out is facing your bottom when you tie it on.

        2.  Place your child on your hip and slide him around to your back.
Keep one hand on your child's bottom to secure him.  Lean
forward slightly to create a "table" for them to lie on.

        3.  Once you've got him lying securely on your back (still keeping
one hand on his bottom) grab one strap and pull it up over your
shoulder.  Place it between your knees and hold it securely.  Do
the same with the other strap.

        4.  Once both straps are over your shoulders, pull them tightly
(hopping a little bit while pulling helps to get it super tight).

        5.  From here there are two things that you can do:
    1. Pull the straps straight under your shoulders like a backpack or
    2. Cross the straps over your chest and then pull them to the back.

        6.  Then take the straps and cross them beneath the child's bottom
(for a newborn, tie behind their back).

        7.  Bring the straps under the child's legs and around to the front.

        8.  Tie in a square knot.

**The most important thing to remember with a back carry is to keep trying.  It is hard at first but will get easier with a few practice sessions.  Don't be afraid to ask for help either.  In no time, you will be confidently doing this in public and amazing your friends!!!**
